What is UPI Lite?

Before we get into the steps, let’s understand what UPI Lite is. UPI Lite is a new payment solution that relies on a trusted NPCI Common Library (CL) application for low-value transactions. These transactions are PIN-free, and UPI Lite acts as a wallet where users can load a certain amount and make payments on the go. The payment limit for UPI Lite transactions is limited to ₹500 per transaction.

Benefits of UPI Lite:

  1. Improved success rate for UPI transactions: UPI Lite ensures smoother transaction processing.
  2. Less infrastructure load on Remitter Bank CBS: It reduces the burden on the bank’s systems.
  3. Uncluttered Passbook for users: UPI Lite transactions won’t clutter your regular bank statement.
  4. One-click single-factor authentication: For UPI transactions of value less than ₹500.

Things to Keep in Mind:

  • Make sure the app is set up properly, and at least one supported bank account is linked.
  • SMS service is necessary for receiving activation notifications.
  • These transactions won’t show up in your regular bank statement.
  • The transaction limit is set to ₹500.
  • Wallet amount is limited to ₹2,000.
  • Total amount for transactions is set to ₹4,000 in 24 hours.
